2020 Clash of the Titans

The Huskies opened the season at the Clash of the Titans, hosted by University Orange City. All three teams wrestled well in our return to the mat. It was great to see the team competing again.

The Varsity Boys finished the tournament in 4th place, lead by senior Ethan Lopez. Lopez won the 182 lb weight class finishing with two pins and a major decision, earning the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award.

Seniors Kathe Wilken-Yoder and and Brooke White lead the Ladies team with first and 2nd place finishes, respectively. Wilken-Yoder won the 140 lb weight class with two pins, including a pin in the finals over Zamora St. Cyr of Dr. Phillips, ranked #2 in the state. White advanced to the finals with back to back pins, before taking her first loss of the season in the finals.

2020 Ron Peters Tournament of Champions

January 3-4, 2020 – Hagerty finished the 2020 Ron Peters Tournament of Champions in 4th place with 7 individual place winners, including two champions and the tournaments Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Dylan Kohn went 5-0 on the tournament with a pin and two major decisions on his way to a championship at 152 pounds.

Joe Gonzalez was the wrestler of the tournament, going 5-0 with five bonus point wins, including a tech fall in the finals, to earn the tournaments Most Outstanding Wrestler Award.

Jason Shaw, Ryan Cody, Logan Perkins, and Sam Bornelus all reached the finals and took 2nd place.

Freshman Kamdon Harrison placed 4th.

Knockout Christmas Classic

December 27-28, 2019 – Hagerty traveled to Osceola High School to compete in the toughest tournament in the southeast, the Knockout Christmas Classic. The team finished in 13th place with two individual place winner. Jason Shaw placed 6th and recorded two pins. Ethan Lopez finished 3rd with his only loss coming in the semifinals to tournament champ Ashton Habeil.

2019 Johnny Rouse Invitational

December 20-21, 2019 – On Friday and Saturday Hagerty hosted and competed in the in the 9th Annual Johnny Rouse Invitational. The team finished with a 6-1 record, finishing 2nd to tournament Champions Southwest Miami. Joe Gonzalez and Dylan Kohn both finished with perfect 7-0 records both earning tournament OW Awards! Jason Shaw (6-1), Kamdon Harrison (6-1), Blake Watts (6-1), Ryan Cody (6-1), Logan Perkins (6-1), and Ethan Lopez (5-1) each had great tournaments as well, finishing with only one loss each.

Lady Pirate Classic Results for Hagerty

December 21, 2019 – The Lady Huskies traveled to Matanzas to compete at the Lady Pirate Classic. Jada Llamido finished 4-0 with four pins and won her second tournament of the season. Kathe Wilkin-Yoder went 2-2 and placed 4th. Brooke White finished the tournament 2-3, placing 6th.

Hagerty Crowns 3 Champs at House of Payne

December 14, 2019 – Kamdon Harrison (3-0, 3 pins), Blake Watts (3-0, 2 pins, 1 major decision), and Sam Bornelus (4-0, 4 pins) each won their weight classes to help the team to a 3rd place finish at the House of Payne IBT at Harmony.

Tyler Swingle went 3-1, placing 2nd. Also placing were: Clayton Childers (4th), Jordan Vasquez (4th), and Jacob Maldonado (4th)

2019 Clash of the Titans Champions!

Varsity Clash

The JV, Ladies, and Varsity Teams competed in the first tournament of the season at the Clash of the Titans at University High School in Orange City. The JV Team won the tournament for the second year in a row and the varsity boys were Clash of Titans Champions for the first time in program history! In total, the Huskies crowned 10 total champions between the JV, Ladies, and Varsity teams and had 17 other wrestlers earn medals placing in the top six in their tournament. Dylan Kohn, who won the 152 lbs championship Saturday, was named the Heavyweight Most Outstanding Wrestler!

Four Huskies Place at the Knockout

December 30, 2017 – Hagerty traveled to Osceola High School to compete in the 2017 Knockout Christmas Classic. The Knockout has become the toughest tournament in the south and featured state championship teams from Florida, Georgia, and Virginia. There were fourteen state champions and 114 state qualifiers and placer winners competing in the two day tournament.

#4 seed at 122 lbs. Dylan Kohn wrestled to s 3rd place finish. Kohn opened the tournament with a couple of pins before losing a 3-1 decision to Albie Snedaker of Fleming Island in the quarterfinals. Dylan would battle back on day two. He pinned Ervin Bryant of Miami Southridge followed by decisions over Osceola’s Josue Calderon and Springstead’s Tommy McCane to advance to the consolation finals. Kohn won by decision over Snedaker in a rematch from the quarterfinals.

Devin Kohn (seeded #5) placed 5th in the 147 lb. weight class. Devin also started the tournament off with a pair of bonus point wins to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinal Kohn would face off against #4 seed Frankie Tal Shahar of American Heritage (Delray Beach). Kohn would lose the match in overtime, but would wrestle back on day two. Kohn finished the tournament 5-2 and in fifth place. In his 5th place match he would win by pin over David Hornsby of Brookwood.

#11 seed Bo Perkins found himself in arguably the toughest weight class in the tournament. the 152 lb. class included four state champions, and three nationally ranked wrestlers. Perkins started the tournament with a 5-1 decision over Joseph Cusick (Bishop Kenny) followed by a pin of Chris Williams (Jensen Beach). Perkins took his first loss of the tournament in the quarterfinals against defending state champion Jacob Conrad of Carrollwood Day School. Bo battled back with a pair of decisions wins against William Vincent (Camden) and Angelo Garcia (Potomac). Perkins finished the day 4-3 and in 6th place.

Justin Segarra was the #7 seed of the tournament. He started the tournament with a pair of bonus point wins: A pin over Nick Ramsayer (South Forsyth) followed by a 15-5 major decision of Andy Hernandez (Riverview). After a loss in the quarterfinals to #2 seed Paul Detwiler of Fleming Island, Segarra tallied off three straight victories: Lane Blackburn (North Gwinnett) by pin, Michael Fernandez (Southwest Miami( by decision 4-2, and pin over #4 seed Jack Sopotnik (Jensen Beach). Justin finished in 4th place after a loss to #3 seed Justin Grant (Lincoln) in the consolation finals.

Hagerty finished the tournament in 7th place.

Hagerty Wins Bill Scott Memorial

December 23, 2017 – The Huskies had seven individual champions and won their first IBT tournament in school history at the 44th Annual Bill Scott Memorial Lyman Holiday Tournament. Ryan Rowland, Dylan Kohn, Marcus Patrick, Devin Kohn, Ethan Lopez, Matt Kaplan, and Nick Walker each won their weight classes. Brothers, Bo Perkins and Mason Perkins, each finished as runners up in their weight classes after making the finals. Other place winners were Nathan Stewart (9th), Michael DeZego (4th), Brandon Boyle (4th), Lee Hoang (7th), Justin Segarra (3rd).

The night was capped off by the Outstanding wrestler award going to Ryan Rowland. Rowland began the tournament with a 45 second pin of Macheal Richardson of Lyman. He then defeated Gavin Buck of Christopher Columbus by major decision (18-5) before tech falling University Orange City’s Zion Gonzalez in the finals.

Hagerty Qualifies for Regional Duals

Saturday, December 16, 2017 – The Huskies traveled to Winter Springs to compete in the 3A-3 District Dual Tournament. Hagerty was the #1 seed and received a bye in the first round. In the semifinals the Huskies defeated the Lake Mary Rams by a score of 54-24. Ryan Rowland, Nathan Stewart, Marcus Patrick, Devin Kohn, Mason Perkins, Justin Segarra, and Nick Walker each record pins to help lead the team to the finals.

The Huskies would face #2 seed Winter Springs in the finals. Despite winning seven of the ten matches wrestled, Hagerty fell just short of winning after being forced to forfeit three weight classes. Ryan Rowland, Ethan Lopez, and Michael DeZego each recorded pins and Devin Kohn added a 10-2 Major Decision. It was a great effort by the entire team. The final score was Hagerty 31 – Winter Springs 33.

The State Dual Series will continue on January 11, 2018 with the Regional Duals. Hagerty will wrestle the #1 seed from district 4.
